Virtual Rangers has developed the "Fire Evacuation" virtual reality training application for the CHL (Centre Hospitalier du Luxembourg). This autonomous VR headset-based training simulates a fire outbreak in the CHL's specialized units.
The purpose of this training is to assess employees’ knowledge of the procedures to follow in the event of a fire. The procedure varies slightly depending on the hospital unit; some scenarios involve evacuating a room with multiple patients, while others involve a newborn in an incubator.
The immersion provided by the helmet and the limited time available for each action give a stressful dimension to the training, which also tests users' stress management.
The knowledge tested in this application is :
- General procedure in the event of fire.
- Choosing the right flame-extinguishing system.
- Good practice in using an extinguisher.
- Bring patient(s) to safety.
- Make yourself safe.
- Contact the hospital janitor to initiate evacuation.
- Appoint a sorting doctor.
- Notify assistance units of the arrival of evacuated patients.
Each user's results are recorded to determine their overall skill level. Each stage of training is also tracked to determine whether any stage is more critical to success than others. This information can then be used to set up targeted training courses, dedicated to misunderstood or more complex subjects.
